We went along to London’s West End, Prince Edward Theatre. To review MJ the Musical and boy are we pleased we did!

MJ the Musical delivers a spectacular tribute to the life and legacy of Michael Jackson, brilliantly brought to life by the talented Jamaal Fields-Green.

From the moment the curtain rises, audiences are completely immersed in a high-energy musical extravaganza, that combines storytelling with an exhilarating array of Jackson’s iconic hits.

Jamaal Fields-Green totally embodies the King of Pop with remarkable authenticity, capturing not only his incredible vocals, but also Michael Jackson’s signature dance moves and charisma. Jamaal’s performance is a masterclass in showmanship, effectively conveying the complexity of Jackson's artistry while paying homage to his impact on music and culture.

The choreography is a standout element of the production, featuring innovative routines that showcase both the performers' athleticism and the precision of Jackson's style. Each dance sequence is meticulously crafted, leaving the audience in awe of the visual spectacle on stage.

The staging and design of the musical complement the vibrant energy of the performances. Utilising cutting-edge technology, the production features impressive visual effects and dynamic set changes that enhance the storytelling perfectly.

The structure of the show presents Michael Jackson, not merely as a pop icon, but as a multifaceted individual grappling with fame, family, and identity and shows an insight of planning his ‘Dangerous’ tour and how meticulous every inch of his plan was. This approach adds emotional depth, allowing us, the audience to connect with Jackson’s journey on a much personal level.

MJ the Musical is a must-see for fans of Michael Jackson and musical theatre alike. It successfully merges nostalgia with a contemporary theatrical experience, not to mention the incredible live performances of Michael Jackson’s best hits, such as ‘Smooth Criminal’, ‘Thriller’, Workin’ Day and Night’, ‘Wanna be starting somethin’ and so, so many more, making it an unforgettable evening in London’s West End.

Whether you are a lifelong fan or new to Jackson's work, this production is sure to leave a lasting impression, but be warned, it does remind you of not just what a true superstar Michael was, (is) but how missed he is to this world too.
